Stikeman Elliott's Intellectual Property Group provides a full range of services relating to trade-marks. The IP Group renders opinions regarding the availability of trade-marks, and files and prosecutes applications to register trade-marks in Canada. Members of the IP Group also represent clients in opposition proceedings and cancellation proceedings before the Registrar of Trade-marks and in infringement and cancellation actions before the Federal Court.

In support of Stikeman Elliott's mergers & acquisitions practice, the IP Group performs due diligence to enable clients to assess trade-marks in the context of investments in, or the acquisition of, a business. The IP Group can offer advice regarding enforcement and registration of security interests in intellectual property assets in general, and trade-marks in particular.

Through our offices outside Canada and our worldwide network of contacts, the IP Group can co-ordinate the clearance, registration, enforcement and defence of trade-marks in foreign countries.
